Icon Tutorials #1

This is my first time to write a tutorial and I\’m not really good at explaining,so don\’t get angry if you can\’t understand the tutorial. This tutorial was written based on The Gimp, not Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro as I use nothing but The Gimp to make icons, layouts, graphics, etc. But I guess it\’s pretty much same with Photoshop.

(1.) Crop your image and resize it.This is an image of Ruki from The GazettE by the way.
(2.) Take this texture taken from Arisubox, paste the image on this texture as a new layer.
(3.) Use the eraser tool to erase the left part of the image.
(4.) Cut out a part of the image, and set it into grayscale mode.Resize the image.
(5.) Paste it on the icon.
(6.) Add some text.
(7.) Take this light texture,I\’ve forgot where I took this,if it\’s yours or you know who made this, please tell me so I can credit the maker of this texture.Paste it on the icon as a new layer.Set the layer mode to “Screen”.
(8.) Erase the left part of the light texture.Duplicate the light texture layer and set the Opacity of the 2nd one to 58.0
(9.) Take this texture taken from Havoc, paste it on the icon as a new layer.Set the layer mode to “Screen”.
(10.) Duplicate the texture layer and set the Opacity of the 2nd one to 32.5.
(11.) Create a 100 x 100 image and fill it with this color,#03122c .
(12.) Paste it on the icon and set the layer mode to “Difference”.Duplicate the layer and set the Opacity of the 2nd one to 42.7.
(13.) Take this texture taken from Arisubox, paste it on the icon as a new layer and set the layer mode to “Multiply(Burn)”.
(14.1) Go to Layers->Merge Visible Layers to merge all the layers into one layer.

(14.2) Go to Filters->Enhance->Sharpen to sharp the image.

(14.3) Finally, go to Image->Colors->Brightness-Contrast to adjust the contrast and the brightness of the icon.

Other icons made with the same technique.

This site is simply my favorite. Thank you for your hard work in making all of these icons and this tutorial is simply great. I use Gimp too, but haven’t mastered it yet, so my graphics aren’t all that good. But this tutorial helped me and the icons (especially your site layout) simply inspires me. I hope I can make graphics as good as you one day. Best wishes to you for the new year. =)
    And thanks again.
